Community Service Officer | About the Position
Community Service Officer is the entry-level classification in the Community Service Officer series and is distinguished from the lead Community Service Officer by the experience, knowledge, and complexity of tasks required to perform the full range of duties.
Being a Community Service Officer (CSO) with the Yuba City Police Department will allow you to work with a variety of units, each with the common goal of serving the public and supporting our operation. CSOs are non-sworn officers who work in the field taking non-urgent reports, directing traffic, and answering non-emergency calls for service. They work with the detectives and Special Events unit assisting detectives. No matter where you look in our department, you are likely to see a CSO assigned to that unit.

What are some other responsibilities?
Write police reports for non-emergency situations that do not require police officer authority, and do not involve potential evidence, suspects, or a crime scene.
• Respond to:
- vehicle break-ins with no suspect information
- coordinate tow services for disabled vehicles.
- bicycle thefts
- Found/lost property
- Other thefts with no suspect information (stolen wallets, purses, other items)
• Community engagement functions
• Attend neighborhood meetings, community and/or public events
• Assist drivers installed vehicles and summon other necessary assistance; respond to pedestrians, bicyclists, and other community members in need of assistance.
• Assist with temporary street closures, detours, and other public service duties identified by police supervisors.
